Jewish Theatre

The Jewish Theatre from Romania has a tradition of over 125 years. Documents certifies the fact that on 19th August 1876, in Iasi, in the famous “Green Tree” summer garden, the artist and writer Avram Goldfaden founded the first professional Jewish theatre in the world, performing a spectacle with his own company. Noteworthy is the fact that the first chronicle of this performance wears the signature of the most important Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu, who greatly appreciated the actors’ performance.
