Ferentz's Cross Iasi

Located on Nicolina Road, the monument was built upon the orders of the Moldavian voivod, Mihail Racovita, on that place where have been defeated all the Austrian soldiers, together with their Belgian commander, Ferentz (François) Ernaut, when they had invaded Moldavia, in order to capture the voivod (January, 1717).

Ferentz was captured, thanks to the Tatar soldiers, who had been announced by the voivod. Ferentz Ernaut was beheaded and buried on Cetatuia hill, with all the soldiers who died in battle. This place is also known as "Ferentz's Verandah".
