The monument (author, Raffaello Romanelli) was inaugurated in 1912. It is placed in the Union Square, where in 1859 the people celebrated, by dance, the union of the Romanian Principalities. It is the first monument constructed by public subscription, thanks to Nicolae Iorga. Alexandru Ioan Cuza is represented with a sword in his hands, pointing down. On the pedestal of Italian white granite, there is a statuary group representing the four "counselors", who participated, with Alexandru Ioan Cuza, in order to unify the two Romanian Principalities: Mihail Kogalniceanu, Ioan Em. Florescu, Costache Negri and Nicolae Cretulescu.
