The monument is the work of the sculptor Marius Butunoiu and it was built in 1977, being dedicated to Michael the Brave (1558-1601), the first Romanian voivode who achieved the political unification of Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania. This was assassinated in 1601, near Turda, the obelisk having a symbolic height of 1601 cm, made of reinforced concrete covered with travertine. The monument has three sides, each symbolizing one of the three Romanian principalities, at its base being the three marble coats of arms of principalities made by the artist Vasile Rus Batin from Cluj.
