Végh Antal School Cernat

The first reference to a Romano Catholic school dates back to 1820, after the reformation. The Catholics obtained an independent schoolhouse only in 1840, when the canon Zámpler János had it built up on his own expenses for the adherents in Alsócsernáton ( Cernatul de Jos ). The sistematical teaching continued in the school taken over from the Catholics in 1652. Taking into consideration the numerous students, the communal school was founded in 1886 beside the denominational school. The susceptibility and claim for education and culture is also proved by the fact that the Reader Society of the village had been already established 1842. Nowadays a school and a kindergarten are functioning in Alsócsernáton (Cernatul de Jos). The primary school is located in the centre and the kindergaren is in the adjoining building. The school nr.3 and the kindergarten being in the same building, are partly closed, only the smallest children are still learning there. The central school bears the name of the Hungarian lieutenant Végh Antal, since he wasborn in the village.
