The Dicasterian Palace

This building is one of the contributions of the eclectic period to the architecture of Timişoara. It was built between 1855 and 1860, to become an administrative building. The construction is imposing through its size and the sobriety of the facades realized in a way that was inspired by the style of the early Italian Renaissance. In the period when it was built it was considered huge, it was erected round three internal courtyards with six gates, it has four storeys and 273 rooms for offices beside  the rooms from the ground floor. It is said, that this building has as many windows as many days there are in a year. The name “Dicasterian” comes from the Greek word “dikasterion”, that used to designate in the ancient times the court with the judges, the monument hosts even today judicial institutions.
