Gyula Castle Spa is located in the park of the former Almássy Castle spreading over 8,5 hectares that was declared a protected area. As a qualified health resort, it is an ideal all season leisure facility both for tired and ill persons and for young people looking for relaxation. The 25,000 flower stems and almost 100 types of trees, bushes and shrubs make up a charming 200 year old park rich in botanical attractions where our guests may enjoy their passion for bathing in an environment that is unique in the country.

The Castle Spa is the proud owner of 5,000 sqm of water and a total of 19 pools. The 72°C thermal water springing from a depth of 2,005 meters is an excellent treatment for muscle and bones illnesses caused by wear and tear and chronic diseases of the nervous system and is also used successfully in posttraumatic and post-surgery recovery therapies and in case of gynaecological illnesses with chronic inflammations. Due to its rich content of mineral substances, the alkaline thermal water containing hydro carbonate and chlorides has a brownish colour. The therapy centre, open all year long, provides mud bath therapy, cellular galvanization electrotherapy, bubble bath, traction bath therapy, underwater jet therapy (tangentor bathtub), therapeutic massage and medical gymnastics or swimming, under the surveillance of expert rheumatologists.

Thermal Water Pools

The Shaded Pool¸ fitted with two neck-showers and two water jet showers offers pleasant entertainment to tired visitors. The jet pool is the favourite option of those suffering from neck or shoulder pains. Due to the effect of water flowing at high pressure through large nozzles, tensed muscles relax and shoulder and neck pains diminish or even disappear.

The upward flowing bubbles of the Jacuzzi pool offer exquisite entertainment and create an optimal impression-effect ratio due to the so-called massage wall, as the common, intense flow of water and air is extremely pleasant and beneficial from a therapeutic point of view.

The octopus-shaped pool, opened in the recreational wing of the Riding Academy building, is at the same time an indoor and outdoor pool. Those who choose the outdoor pool may enjoy the beneficial effects of the thermal water in a superb environment shadowed by resinous trees.

The therapeutic pool of the Riding Academy is very popular among the guests seeking recreation and sporting activities. The movement of painful joints is much easier and less painful in the thermal water, especially in case of illnesses of worn-out spine, hip and shoulder joints. The pool is recommended for experienced swimmers. The Riding Academy building hosts another two therapeutic pools and a family pool.

Outdoor swimming pools

The range of European standard services offered by Gyula Castle Spa is supplemented with one of the most well-known competition swimming pool in the south of the Great Hungarian Plain and the related 25m educational swimming pool. Due to the tent-like roof, the competition swimming pool which is able to host winter sporting events attracts sports lovers by featuring swimming contests, water polo games and other entertaining events even in the period October - May.

The water slide pool is the favourite of families, being suitable not only for playing, but for swimming as well. Along with the small traditional slide, another two more captivating slides provide entertainment to all family members - adults and children alike. The wave pool, ideal for all age ranges, is one of the most modern of its type in Hungary.

Children’s water paradise promises relaxed entertainment to children between 2 and 10 years old. The children bathing in this pool may participate in ten types of games. The “artesian fountain”, which is actually a reversed pool, with its hundreds of ascending water jets, is a real fountain of happy moments.

The domed pool of the Wellness and Sauna Castello Park Centre creates a unique atmosphere for the wide range of exciting features for the guests’ pleasure: neck showers, water jets, standing massage therapy, twister, sitting hydro-massage, horizontal jacuzzi. Recreation is completed by reading and relaxing facilities in the gallery over the pool and the recreational terraces. The Wellness Centre has an exit leading to the Sauna Park, where the Finnish saunas and infra-saunas, the steam cabins, the ice cave, the original Finnish outdoor saunas and plenty of luxury services comfort the guests. Those who choose this place for relaxing may select from many Aufguss options (the pouring of water on hot stones). The Aufguss-session is a beautiful ceremony heating the body and soul. It is recommended to be performed during the third and last phase of the sauna process. The session lasts 8-12 minutes during which Saunameisters use a towel to perform a fanning technique to remove the isolation layer around the body, then they pour two-three wooden spoons of water (usually mixed with essential oils) onto the hot stones. The Saunameister performs these two techniques in turns, which gives guests a very pleasant feeling. Try the honey, beer or lemon Aufguss, or even the erotic Aufguss!

The Beauty Massage Salon offers to guests seeking refreshment a choice of 40 types of massage. They are available in three packages which allow the choice of the preferred ones for the same price. The Beauty Massage Salon offers refreshing massage supplemented by aromatherapy for 30 or 60 minutes, “beauty” massage for nourishing our guests’ natural beauty or even extra massage options.
