Presentation - "domneascäƒ" Church Busteni

The Domnească Church

The Domnească Church is a smaller copy of the Horezu Monastery. Due to its architecture, interior contents and its age, it is one of the most remarkable monuments of the area. This Orthodox Church was built in 1889. It was founded by the King Carol I and the queen Elisabeta, who have been painted in the pronaos in natural sizes. The church has the shape of a cross with two towers of different forms, built by Italian architects led by Pietro Dreossi. The furniture is made of massive oak, and the iconostasis, considered to be the most beautiful one in Romania, was made in Wienna. The original icons preserved were painted by Gheorghe Tătărescu or his disciples. The original painting from the altar shares the same author with the Sinaia Monastery - Agnes Exner.
