The Codru-Moma Mountains

The Western Mountains, the stronghold that closes the Carpathian arc of Romania have peninsular extensions toward the West, which protrude into the Cris Plain. The central extension is formed by the Codru-Moma Mountains, framed by the Padurea Craiului Mountains at the North and The Zarand Mountains to the South.

As their name shows, the Codru-Moma Mountains consist of two different mountain groups: The Codru Mountains and the Moma Mountains, separated quite clearly by two divergent valleys, the Briheni Valley (east) and the Moneasa Valley (west). The Codru Mountains occupy the north and south-west part of the massif, while the Moma Mountains the south-west part.
