Presentation - Sinaia Monastery Sinaia
Sinaia Monastery
For the tourists that come here to visit “- Sinaia-The Pearl of Carpathians”- Sinaia Orthodox Monastery is one of the most important attractions, which deserves maximum of attention. Sinaia Monastery- a true Bucegi Mountains Cathedral- is located in a wonderful landscape. It is dated from the end of the XVII century and it represents the “identity card” of the city- being actually the first building of the area.
Deteriorated several times, this was partially rebuilt between 1893 and 1903, and completely renovated following the plans of the architect George Mandrea. A green enameled ceramic belt made out of three lines that are twisted here and there, surround the exterior of the monastery, and they form a frame for a number of niches painted with saints faces, under the church’s cornice.
One of the most remarkable objects from the monastery is the epitaph made by Anna Roth, from1897 till1900. The epitaph is woven in gold and velvet wire on a cotton tissue and it is registered in UNESCO’s catalogue. Inside the nave there are the arm chairs reserved for the Royal Family. At King Carol I wish, The Big Church and The Old Monastery became the first electrified buildings from Romania. The Royal Family has lived in Sinaia Monastery every holiday, for 11 years, starting from 1871.
The Monastery can be visited every day. |
