Tarisznyás Márton Museum Gheorgheni

The local Museum bears the name of an etnographer with Armenian origins- Tarisznyás Márton, who undertook the noble work of mapping traditional folk world of the Gheorgheni area.

The museum houses three permanent exhibitions: the first can be divided into two categories: on one hand the traditional wear of the Szekler-Hungarian, Armenian, Romanian and Gypsy population in the area of Gheorgheni also adding to the collection the traditional costumes of the Csángó people, and on the other hand one gets to know the traditional tools and materials that were used to weave them.

In the second exhibition minerals, rocks, flowers and fossils found both in the vicinity of Gheorgheni and from far away lands are put up for display. This collection is said to be one of the largest of its kind in the country, displaying one special rock that is nowhere to be found in the world, its temporary name being Leonsvantit.

The third exhibition we can enjoy ourselves by contemplating while examining the paintings of János Karácsony.

Besides these permanent exhibitions other themed temporary exhibitions await interested guests and moreover activities with different topics are organized throughout the year. 

The building of the Musueum was built between 1770-1778 in baroque and it is one of the oldest civil houses in town.
