The Bohuş Castle

Above Şiria, one can see the ruins of a feudal castle, most  probably built in the 13th century, which can be reached from a practicable road that starts from the centre of the commune. Apparently, the oldest part is the keep, the rest of the walls were added gradually until the 16th century. By the construction of the fortress Roman bricks were also used, which carry the marks of the 13th legion, Gemina.

Under the hill with the fortress the Bohuş castle can be visited, built in the first part of the 19th century. It is made up of one single body and it has 30 rooms. The main part has a facade and a terrace with Doric columns, in the fashion of a country manor in neo-classical style. In this building, the negotiations concerning the unconditioned capitulation from 13 August 1849 were lead  between general Gorgey, the supreme commander of the Hungarian revolutionary army and general Frolov, the czar's representative.
