The Maria Theresa Bastion

The Maria Theresa Bastion was built between 1730 and 1735 and is the greatest segment of wall that has remained from the old Fortress of Timşoara. Today it is used as a passage, but it also puts up commercial establishments, restaurants, pubs, a club and a library, as well as  two permanent exhibitions of  the Banat Museum: that of Information Technology and Communication, and the exhibition “The Violin - a lifetime's passion”, but also the ethnography section of the Banat Museum.

The Maria Theresa Bastion is the largest part of the defensive wall round the old Fortress of Timişoara that has survived until today. There is another fragment from the walls of the former fortress in the Botanical Park, and still another one on the Al. Ioan Cuza Road.
